Marsupial March- 31 Days of Aussie Movies- Day 6- Kitty And The Bagman (1982)

Kitty arrives from England with her husband who is arrested for past crimes. She then enters a life of crime to survive.

I first heard of Kitty and the Bagman because of my love of Prisoner Cell Block H. But rather than this just being a movie of interest to fans of this show, this is purely incidental.

Kitty and the Bagman is a fantastic film that is massively underrated. Gorgeous cinematography, locales, and beautifully framed, this film is a treat. A massive shout-out to the make-up and costume departments too. Whenever I looked the film up on the Internet, any description begins with the words ‘Infamous Australian bomb’ which is unfair as it will make potential viewers think that this is a film to avoid. This couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s a fantastic yarn.

And for the Prisoner fans, this film features Bea, Dor and Fletch The Letch (a couple of his scenes even involve full frontal nudity. Oh my!)

Kitty and the Bagman was released on DVD in Oz a while ago. A reappraisal is long overdue.
