ABC of Horror- Day 8- H- Halloween 5: The Revenge of Micheal Myers (1989)

A recap as to how I would rate the previous films in the Halloween franchise-

-Halloween (1978)- 5 out of 5 stars

-Halloween 2 (1981)- 4.5 out of 5 stars

-Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (1982)- 4.5 out of 5 stars

-Halloween 4: The Return of Micheal Myers (1988)- 1 out of 5 stars

Halloween 5 involves more of the same from Part 4- Michael returns to Haddonfield to try and kill his niece, Jamie Lloyd.

Unfortunately, it repeats the same elements I despised from the previous film. Irritating characters, older characters who were once interesting who have been reduced to shadows of their former self (yes, I’m talking about you Dr Loomis) and a complete and utter lack of suspense or tension.

Hearing an anaemic replay of Carpenter’s Halloween theme from the original film over the soundtrack reminds you that you could be watching a much better movie, indeed a masterpiece, instead.

Part 5 might be much darker in look and doesn’t have the sunny, colourful palate of the TV movie shenanigans of Part 4 but it accounts for nothing.

Don’t waste your time. Watch the original and follow it up with the next two films. The first two sequels show that there was once life in the Halloween franchise before it was taken over by ‘directors’ (and I use that term loosely) who hate horror movies and hate the demographic who go to see them.
