The Video Nasties Reviewed- Section 1- Day 22- Forest of Fear (1980)

Forest of Fear (aka Toxic Zombies, Bloodeaters, Bloodeaters: Butchers of the Damned and The Dromax Derangement) is about a huge outdoor marijuana crop that is dusted with a substance which transforms some boring hippies into something much more interesting- flash-eating zombies.

Forest of Fear is very low-budget, with a gritty(and ultra simplistic) synth score and very over-ripe acting. In other words, it’s great fun.

John Amplas who played the lead in George A Romero’s masterpiece, Martin stars.

Another quality the film possesses that I loved was that some cast members wildly overact and overreact to certain scenes. I love this as it reminds me of some of the acting in Alice, Sweet, Alice and most of the acting in John Waters’ filmography. I need to come up with a name for this breed of deranged, unhinged acting style.

Look out for the waterfall that links two scenes together. It isn’t actual footage but a still. You heard that right. Maybe they couldn’t afford to film a waterfall so they just used a photograph instead. Genius.

Tons of fun and still better than the last three Halloween films.
