Conrad von Starke is going to meet a female friend. But this isn’t any meeting. The woman, Lise Cohen, he is going to meet was a female inmate at the concentration camp von Starke was in command of. We get to see what happened in this camp through Lise’s flashbacks and how she and von Starke became attached.

Needless to say, this isn’t the kind of film that you’d show at a family gathering. It’s transgressive, extreme and looks to provoke reactions, good or bad.
Gestapo’s Last Orgy also has the alternate title of Caligula Reincarnated As Hitler (catchy!) and, as a sign of the times, is available to watch on YouTube!

This film was massively problematic when it was placed on the Video Nasties list (for obvious reasons), but whilst so many fellow nasties have now been released either cut or uncut, Gestapo’s Last Orgy holds the dubious honour of still being refused a BBFC certificate when 88 Films tried to get the film classified in 2021.
What do I think of the actual film? I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is the dirty descendant of films like Night Porter and Salon Kitty just as Maniac and New York Ripper are descended from Taxi Driver. Whilst Gestapo’s features a checklist of sexual perversions and cruelty, it never feels like tired attempts to merely shock. It also looks eerily beautiful and clean and boasts a great soundtrack based on snatches of dialogue.

This is strong stuff but in the words of a great tagline from years before, ‘It’s only a movie! Only a movie…’
