The Video Nasties Reviewed- Section 1- Day 29- Love Camp 7 (1969)

Two female army agents go undercover in a Nazi concentration camp to gain information- WITH HILARIOUS CONSEQUENCES!!! (Just kidding).

Lee Frost’s Love Camp 7 is the first of the so-called Naziploitation genre (a dubious honour) and whilst it may have been controversial for the time, it’s pretty tame when compared to the other genre entries that followed in the 70’s. With these later films there was a feeling of ‘F*ck it. We’re making an exploitation film regarding the Nazis, we may as well just really go for it!’ But, Love Camp 7 is more cautious, and, it must be said, pretty boring.

The cultural zeigiest surrounding the film is more interesting than the film itself. You see, the late 60’s was all about balance. There was a huge pushback regarding the Summer of Love and the flower children. The Manson murders, Altamont and then Vietnam later on, could all be seen as part of this societal reality check. Love Camp 7 is almost certainly part of it, also.

But in actuality, Love Camp 7 is pretty anaemic.
