You have a hit exploitation film. You want to shoot a sequel but on the cheap. How do you do this?
You begin with credits that are literally words written with dripping red ink on sheets of paper and hold them up for the start of the movie (it doesn’t matter that you can see the hand of the person holding it up in one shot). You set the film in Hollywood with the female lead of the first film there to make a film about what she experienced in the first movie. You then regurgitate whole swathes of the first film. You then shoot new footage for the last act of the film that isn’t a patch on the original even though the kills contained within are pretty unorthodox (electric toothbrush, anyone?) You then release your movie.

And that’s Boogeyman 2 aka Revenge of the Bogeyman. Some people think this was all intentional and is some kind of genius stunt. I just think it’s a great reminder to watch the fantastic first film.
If only Ulli Lommel (who stars in this sequel as a director) had made a legit follow-up with the same verve, grit and sleazy mentality that made the first film so memorable.
