Pam Grier stars as the lead character who takes on a gang of drug dealers after they kill her undercover cop boyfriend.

Foxy Brown has so much going for it- Grier who is fantastic in the lead, Antonio Fargos (yes, Huggy Bear from Starsky and Hutch), a great soundtrack (that was released on Motown) and a wardrobe and set design that utilises colours that can make your retinas bleed. Add to this a title sequence that is equally far-out and also acts as a Blaxploitation nod to James Bond and you have a very heady brew.

But with so many positives, there is a major drawback- the plot. Events don’t quite hang together and this aspect of the film feels underdeveloped and somewhat half-baked. There are better Pam Grier films from the same era that I prefer (Coffy, for one).
But there still enough great scenes that make this worthwhile viewing. The lesbian bar punch-up is worth the price of admission alone.

The scene of a nurse slapping an erect member is pretty special too.
