The Video Nasties Reviewed- Section 3- Day 41- The Killing Hour (1982)

An artist finds she can psychically see how a killer is murdering people and can draw pictures of the scenes of his crimes as they’re happening. She works with the police to try and find the killer.

This is the film Armand Mastroianni made after He Knows You’re Alone (my favourite Tom Hanks movie) two years before.

And it’s pretty good! Great kills (one involving a man drowning by having his foot handcuffed to the bottom rung of a swimming pool ladder so that he drowns REALLY freaked me out!), snappy dialogue, gorgeous New York locations and enough suspense to carry it along.

Of course, there are Eyes of Laura Mars vibes to this but it’s not as good as Faye Dunaway’s gritty campfest.

But it still possesses enough to warrant investigation (pun not intended). I love that, as the killer uses handcuffs, he’s dubbed, wait for it, The Handcuff Killer. Genius.

The Killing Hour was also released as The Clairvoyant.

3.5 out of 5 stars
