Susan, a 10 year old girl, enters her family mausoleum during her mother’s funeral. She becomes possessed by an evil spirit which now lives inside her. The film then flashes forward as we now follow her progress as an adult.

Mausoleum is an odd movie. It contains dialogue which sounded better on the page but comes across as stilted and off-kilter when spoken aloud. It’s bizarre to behold but strangely enjoyable because of this.
Also, apart from the beginning and end of the movie that take place in the dark (but very colourful) confines of the tomb, the rest of the movie takes place in Susan’s dream house and is so bright and breezily lit that this feels like either an hour and a half commercial or an extended soap opera episode.

I love how she uses her sexuality to lure men in (she has a thing for Hispanic gardeners) and then transform herself into the demon and then kill them. This is deadly cougar energy.
The scene that features LaWanda Page from Sanford and Son is hysterically funny.

Mausoleum is also gory as hell. I love the scene in the shopping centre in which a man is sent plummeting to his death and is then impaled when he hits the bottom. Death by food court, very Dawn of the Dead.
Bobbie Bresee as the adult Susan reminded me of Dee Wallace in The Howling in certain scenes. The demon also reminded me of some of the werewolves from the same film.

Camp, funny (both intentionally and not), gory and a true one-off. Even the cheesy ending is kinda fun.
