A company, Interzod, run by an astrologer, prepares themselves for the second coming of Christ or conversely, the Anti-Christ. They know this because of their analysis of zodiac signs and dates of birth.

As you may have gathered by this synopsis, this isn’t your average exploitation film. This is a student film by James Glickenhaus before he made The Exterminator. This was the only thing that I found interesting about the film. It’s like watching the early short films of David Cronenberg. They’re not as good as his full length features, but still worthy of your attention as you can see a director’s origins.

The Astrologer also features the first score by Brad ‘The Terminator’ Fiedel. It’s very Twin Peaks like (certainly not a bad thing).
Whilst it’s great to see proto- Glickenhaus, it is a little dry. Far too many scenes of talking and exposition without any real stuff happening. It feels in places that an hour and a half Open University lecture on physics that’s been shown on 70’s UK TV.

People have said this is an entry into the genres of either Godsploitation or Jesusploitation, neither of which I’ve heard of before. Would ‘God Told Me To’ be another entry? It’s much better.
