Hundreds of years ago, a witch, Mad Dolly (!) is almost executed but escapes this by invoking the devil (it pays to have friends in high places) and curses the family, The Garricks, for trying to have her burnt at the stake. Fast forward to the present day (well, the late 70’s) and the last of the Garrick family line has just made a film about Mad Dolly. Then brutal murders start to happen.

When I saw this was a Norman J Warren film I couldn’t help thinking, ‘Please be more Prey and not Inseminoid!’ My prayers were answered.

My first thought was regarding Glynis Barber being a cast member. She must have a portrait in the attic as she still looks great, but that’s another discussion for another day. Her running away from an assailant through woodland reminded me of Marilyn Burns in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre but not as noisy. Her murder was also very violent and graphic which hints at why this was on the Section 3 list.

There are also strong Suspiria vibes here in relation to the staging, lighting and colour pallet of different scenes.

Terror is a very enjoyable British 70’s horror movie which builds up great levels of suspense and blends the old and new when it comes to the genre.

I also love that it’s based around the adult film world of that era. In one scene an actress even enters a scene and utters the line, ‘Have I left my knickers in ‘ere?!’ With dialogue like that you know you’re in for a fun movie.
