A mad scientist, Dr Lorca, is making murderous human/plant hybrids on an island using the blood of the local inhabitants.

Tomb of the Living Dead is actually Mad Doctor of Blood Island after it was retitled to try and cash in on all things zombie. It’s the third film in a four film Filipino series about Blood Island.

There’s plenty of nudity and also, plenty of gore with limbs and guts being thrown around. This explains the films inclusion on the dreaded Video Nasties Section 3 list.

But in actuality, this is all pretty camp stuff. It’s a fun movie, the green of the algae on the monster is aesthetically pleasing and it never gets boring.

Was this title enough for the BBFC to think the nation’s viewers would be corrupted for watching this in the privacy of their own homes? Of course not. What we get instead is a kitsch Drive-in staple immortalised on this list.
