Daniella has been having nightmares involving herself being a female werewolf and being hunted by angry villagers. This is after she learnt that a female relative from generations before and who she resembles was actually executed for being a werewolf. She starts to become more and more like her ancestor.

And I was expecting Werewolf Woman to be a feminine twist on a generic werewolf movie with full moons, silver bullets et al. There is instead a lot going on here. Another layer to the plot is that the lead character was s*xually assaulted at the age of 13 and so the trauma attached to this terrible experience is thought to be exacerbating what she’s now going through.

The effects are excellent, the gore is graphic and there’s nudity aplenty (the dance Daniella performs naked in the films opening scene is very up close and personal). All of this suggests why the DPP prudes added this to the Video Nasties list.

So, there’s enough to satiate the most ardent horror fan but with an actual plot, interesting characters and a plot with plenty of twists and turns. And all whilst being presented like a low budget, sleazy Drive-In exploitation film.

A very unique film. I’m glad I finally saw it.
