The Video Nasties Reviewed- Anomalies- Day 11- Terror Express (1980)

Three psychopaths are aboard a sleeper train travelling across Europe. Mayhem and violence ensue.

The comparisons with Late Night Trains here is blatantly obvious. But here the premise is more fleshed out. We are presented with a whole range of characters who are also travelling on the train which includes a prost*tute and a cop escorting a felon who’s in handcuffs. The story for Terror Express was written by none other than George Eastman!

I knew things would be s*xually explicit when I saw that many of the websites showing the film online were, erm, more ‘specialist’. And the film is indeed extreme when it comes to s*x and violence (a major reason why the BBFC saw this film as problematic but also because, apparently, they confused this also with Late Night Trains. An easy mistake to make).

It would be easy to class this as ‘Eurosleaze’ but a member of the cast is the excellent Werner Pochath who is on cracking form here and at his unhinged best. You may remember him from another video nasty, Bloodlust.

The film also has a brilliant and very unsettling darkly psychedelic soundtrack that is just as sleazy as what we see go on on the screen.

Terror Express is a solid piece of entertainment which will appeal to the dirty Mac brigade as well as horror fans.
