What A Carry On!- Day 19- Carry On Up The Jungle (1970)

The Carry On team parody the Tarzan films of old. Lady Bagley is looking for her missing child and husband whereas Professor Tinkle is looking for a rare species of bird.

This entry veers into potentially serious territory with the plot involving the missing child and then, of all things, cannibalism later on in proceedings. This doesn’t suddenly turn into a bawdy variant of Cannibal Ferox however. It’s a hell of a lot better than most of the jungle-based cannibal films on the Video Nasties list that I reviewed recently.

The laughs are pretty evenly spread, Frankie Howerd replaces Kenneth Williams (who funnily enough reviewed this film favourably in his diaries after he saw it one night) and Kenneth Connor also returns.

I remember seeing this as a kid and loving it. It lived up to my recollections. As the series goes on, the gags get muckier which I’m certainly not complaining about. I loved the scene of a snake going up Lady Bagley’s skirt. What would Freud say?!
