What A Carry On!- Day 26- Carry On Dick (1974)

Richard ‘Dick’ Turpin (or ‘Big Dick’ to his mates) is robbing the wealthy in Upper Dencher. At a loss regarding how to remedy this, Captain Fancey and Sergeant Jock Strapp (!) employ the services of Reverend Flasher who can hopefully put a stop to Turpin’s thieving ways.

Carry On Dick really is the end of an era. Not only would this be screenwriter Talbot Rothwell’s last entry in the series, the film would also be the last we would see of Sid James, Barbara Windsor and Hattie Jacques in the franchise.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film with it’s, again, more coarse humour than before (the number of jokes involving ‘Dick’ and it’s many meanings is extensive. Even the film’s tagline contains the word ‘cocked’) and with the cast clearly giving their all and throwing themselves into proceedings.

Again, with this being a historically themed entry, the costumes and production values are top notch and nothing is spared.

There’s a tinge of sadness to proceedings (or maybe it’s just me) as I know that much loved cast members exit smiling with Carry On Dick.

I look forward to watching the last few entries (especially Emmanuelle. Columbus not so much) to see how they fare.
