From IMDB- ‘When a new family moves to an old house in Amityville, they are tormented and tortured by an evil spirit living in the home while trapped by the malicious townspeople who want to keep them there.’
So, this doesn’t look like it was shot on a phone, feels like an actual film and has character development, a sense of suspense and the audio mix isn’t all messed up. Way to go, Amityville franchise!

The character backstories/dramas added a nice frisson to events with the past of the alcoholic aunt being very interesting. It also added mystery which was great. I hate horror films that over explain everything.
It’s hilarious that a series entry isn’t a half star film and so I instantly breathed a sigh of relief.

This is no masterpiece and isn’t even comparable to the genuinely interesting entries that followed Part 3 in the 80’s and 90’s, but it’s a step in the right direction.
A note to the filmmakers though- you didn’t have to start the film with a scene from the end of the film. That should be reserved for those films where 75% of the film is mind-numbingly boring. The Amityville Terror is far from that.

Oh, and if you’re wondering, the house in the film isn’t *the* house or even the house in the sleeve artwork for the film. It would appear that EVERY and ANY house in Amityville is haunted/possessed.
