From IMDB- ‘Baron Henry Frankenstein and his monster both turn out to be alive, not killed as previously believed. Frankenstein wants to get out of the evil-experiment business, but when mad scientist Dr. Pretorius kidnaps his wife, Frankenstein agrees to help him create a new creature, a woman, to be the companion of the monster.’

History has been very kind to Bride of Frankenstein as it’s now regarded as one of the best horror films ever made. And for good reason.

It has a lot of horror goodness within but also comedy (Minnie is a very funny character), action (the creation scene is just as brilliant as the one featured in the original and check out the lighting and framing), and even heartwarming fare (check out the scene with the blind violin player).

There’s also character development as the monster can now talk, smoke and drink wine!
Dr Pretorius is a great character. He’s equal parts Zachary Smith from Lost in Space, Sardu from Bloodsucking Freaks and Quentin Crisp. He’s all camp one-liners and arched eyebrows.

But the greatest character, and one of the best introduction scenes for a character ever is, of course, Elsa Lanchester as The Bride. And another Goth building block slips into place. I can already smell the patchouli oil…

Bride of Frankenstein also officially earns its place in the online forum arguments regarding sequels that may be better than their originals.
