Universal Classic Monsters Reviewed- Day 15- The Mummy’s Hand (1941)

A pair of bumbling amateur archeologists go treasure seeking but unfortunately, after plundering a tomb, are terrorised by a high priest and a mummy who are its guardians.

This isn’t a sequel to The Mummy but, instead, the first film in a new series of films.

It’s clear the wisecracking would-be archaeologists are modelled on Abbott and Costello who were on the cusp of becoming huge at this time. And this isn’t a bad thing. They’re excellent and very likeable.

But this isn’t just goofy humour. This is also an enjoyable piece of Universal horror goodness that certainly delivers on the atmosphere front. I don’t really like mummy films of yore, but as this is just over an hour in length, it never overstays its welcome.

I look forward to the other films in this series.
