This Hindi film concerns a young woman who finds she is possessed on the eve of her wedding. Can her family save her?
As this is a Bollywood film there are song and dance routines (one that brilliantly lapses into hip-hop), comedic turns and plenty of jollity along the way. But this is a horror film and the possession scenes are very entertaining. There’s a strong Exorcist vibe of course not least by the fact that the evil spirit likes to laugh in the face of the holy man who is sent to exorcise it.

I love that it takes representatives of many different faiths to team together to try and defeat the evil. A religious Avengers, if you will.
This is also a gorgeously colourful film with fantastic cinematography and innovative direction. Throughout the film, I kept thinking, ‘I really must watch more Bollywood’.

And then the film suddenly changes direction and makes a plea for tougher punishment for child abusers. The film ends very abruptly indeed after this. I really didn’t see that coming.
A very entertaining film and even though I haven’t seen it, I’m guessing it’s still a much better possession film than Exorcist: Believer.

3.5 out of 5 stars.
