This sequel to Zombie Flesh Eaters is a sequel in name only.

A terrorist robbing a research facility is contaminated with an experimental new serum, which turns the living into zombies but also resurrects the dead. Let the fun begin!
Zombi 3 had a troubled production. Director Lucio Fulci found the script to be terrible and so rewrote it with his daughter. The film’s producer didn’t want to use this, though, and so Fulci filmed over half of the film but then quit. The producer tried to say that Fulci left because of illness, but Fulci confirmed the troubled relations with the producer later and said that he didn’t leave due to illness. The producer hired Bruno Mattei to direct the rest of the film.

Whilst Zombi 3 is nowhere near as good as Fulci’s previous Zombie Flesh Eaters, it’s still entertaining enough. Yes, some of the dialogue is filler rubbish, and some of the non-action scenes are terrible, but it’s well paced and the kills are gory and innovative.
Some of the zombies are extremely agile and have moves that are reminiscent of WWE wrestlers (not a bad thing). There’s also the best use of a DJ in a film this side of The Warriors.

But I just kept thinking, what if Lucio had directed all of the film whilst using his own script? We’ll never know. Zombi 3 is good but not great. But don’t expect any fight sequences between sharks and zombies or boundary-pushing eye-gouging special effects.
