An all-female group of scientists investigate a ‘shimmer’, a zone created when a meteor hits the earth which has a mutating effect on vegetation and animals within.

This is an interesting plot which, unfortunately, feels like it’s been completely wasted. Unlikeable characters (all different but not one who I could empathise with), bad CGI which has aged terribly and mutated creatures that just aren’t scary (the bear is a prime example). The ending just felt like some kind of over elaborate light show.

I’ve used this analogy before but this felt less like a film and more like I was watching someone playing a horror-tinged shoot-em-up.

Natalie Portman is wasted here. And so is Alex Garland, truth be told.
