A woman with ESP is kept heavily sedated and is held against her will in an isolated commune.

I had heard that this film was like marmite- some loved it, some hated it. Things didn’t bode well for it as it was consistently compared to a film I hate- Solaris (the original).
But I actually loved Beyond…It’s more Cronenberg meets Michael Mann than Tarkovsky’s bore fest. Panos Cosmatos has made a film that feels like reading a completely engrossing science fiction novel.

Amazing photography, a fantastic colour palette and a moody synth score, I was drawn in from the opening credits of a dilating eye.
It also felt authentic to the time period it was set in, more than can be said for many other movies that try to portray the 80s (yes, I’m looking at you, WW84).

An interesting curiosity that’s worth seeking out.

I love Beyond the Black Rainbow! It gives me an eerie feeling not too many films can accomplish.
