A beautiful woman prowls the streets of Glasgow at night in a van, picking up men and luring them to a deadly fate. But who (or what) is she?

A film about a sexy but murderous alien set in Glasgow and starring Scarlett Johansson, you say?! Sign me up.

This film really did get under my skin (pun not intended). The ruse the lead uses to lure the men back to her place (a very shabby house shrouded in darkness) reminded me of real-life serial killers such as The Yorkshire Ripper and Dennis Nilsen who would befriend their victims as part of their dastardly plan. This was very creepy.

The film is very arty but never pretentious too. I loved the scenes where the men she lures back would strip off with her but then walk down into black water (I took this as being a metaphor for them being drugged and losing consciousness).

I also love how Glasgow is shown as a majestic city by day, then as a sinister nocturnal sea of streetlights at night. Apparently, director Jonathan Glazer cast many non-actors and even used hidden cameras to create a more natural feel. This works very well.

Mica Levi’s score is also excellent and perfect for the disturbing vibe of the film.

The ending is something else. You haven’t lived until you see Ms Johansson peel off her own skin to reveal what’s underneath.
