How the hell do I describe this film? Someone who looks like Leatherface stabs themself to death in the Evil Dead cabin. After this, we witness the birth of Mother Earth and the Son of Earth who then ‘journey across a dying world’ apparently.

This scungy, lo-fi work by E. Elias Merhige features unknown actors from a theatre company. It’s primarily in black and white, looks like the negative was buried underground out of its canister and presented as is.

If the cinematography feels threadbare, disturbing and fever-dream-like, the soundtrack involves loops, sounds getting louder then quieter and genuinely gorgeous classical pieces.

This would be a great choice of film to put on when you want more normal people to leave. If you recommend this to your friends who love true crime, punk rock and horror movies, they’ll love you unreservedly.

I could imagine GG Allin or Throbbing Gristle showing this behind them as they performed.
