‘While cleaning the basement in his church, Father Loomis comes across a canister filled with a volatile green substance. With help from Professor Birack, he realises that the liquid is Satan’s spirit.’

Just your average Satan as a green liquid movie. The concept of this movie is amazing. Carpenter expands the minds of his audience with Prince of Darkness whilst taking into account that they have a modicum of intelligence.
Watching this for the first time on home video was akin to watching Phantasm for the very first time. I realised I was watching something highly original and utterly brilliant.

Throw into the mix the return of the ever-brilliant Donald Pleasance and a great turn by Alice ‘Feed My Frankenstein’ Cooper and you have a great movie.
I love that proceedings start in quite a normal way for a late 80’s horror movie (resplendent with mullets and high waistlines) but then events veer into very strange, almost metaphysical territory.

Prince of Darkness also did brilliantly at the box office! Who said that audiences just wanted the most base horror movies instead of intelligent and original fare?
