Aka ‘The George A Romero film that isn’t horror’, was purportedly lost for many decades, something the director was pleased about as he hated it.

But, then it was rediscovered and released firstly by Something Weird Video and more recently on Blu Ray by Arrow Video.
And the truth is, it isn’t as dreadful as Romero stated. It’s a groovy, somewhat far-out early 70’s romantic comedy/drama that has aged incredibly well and acts fantastically as a time capsule of youth culture back then and also left-field filmmaking.

But this isn’t merely an exercise in nostalgia. The themes raised (relationships, pregnancy, abortion) are just as relevant now as they always were.
The look of the film is gorgeous and the colour palette is just as vivid as an early 70’s acid trip. Look at the scene in which the lead character takes his dad to a strip joint (!) The colour is gorgeous.

I also love the fact that the lead character talks directly to the audience.

Judith Ridley stars. She played Judy in Night of the Living Dead who was, of course, turned into human BBQ for the zombies.

A rediscovered and restored gem.
